AlterWood and Rico Verhoeven join forces for youth home
In Halsteren, a former commercial building is being converted into an impressive home for out-of-home placements for young people: Vivendum. This special project, initiated by world kickboxing champion Rico Verhoeven, aims to offer young people a safe and supportive place where they can unwind and find their way back into society.
Rico’s vision was clear: to create a place where young people would feel welcome and safe, but that also had a powerful look. The façade played an important role here. The outdated building was completely renovated inside and out, with the exterior receiving a robust yet inviting look with Millboard cladding from AlterWood.
Enhanced Grain façade boards in the colour Brushed Basalt were used. These board combine a natural wood grain look with modern functionality. The bold blue-grey hue reinforces the look of strength and calm, in keeping with Vivendum’s aim. The flexible application and easy installation made an efficient façade renovation possible.
The Millboard façade cladding used not only gives the building character, but is also highly durable and requires no maintenance. Millboard façade cladding is made of durable materials such as recycled fillers and biopolymers, and lasts for decades. The 100% wood-free composition ensures that the boards will not rot or warp, and the UV and weather resistant top layer guarantees that the boards will retain their colour and quality, helping the property look sharp for years to come without requiring any maintenance and without any harm to the environment. That makes this façade cladding an excellent choice for a project like this.
The renovation has created a future-proof building with a look and feel that fits seamlessly with Rico’s ideas. Vivendum offers young people a safe haven where they can work on their futures. We are happy to have been able to contribute to that with AlterWood.

This remnant stock has only been used for five days at a trade fair. The boards have not been screwed down, so they are still completely new. However, the floor is dirty and needs to be cleaned with soap and water before use. Includes fastening materials, transport with forklift truck, and VAT. Matching substructure available at extra cost.
